World's Highest Triathlon coming to Lake Dillon near Breckenridge

May 19, 2016

106º West is a global coordinate, a coordinate locating the Highest Triathlon in the World.

1.2 mile swim, 56 mile cycle and 13.1 mile run, 106º West sets a new standard for competition as athletes from around the world gather in the heart of the Rocky Mountains on September 10, 2016. With exclusive permission granted to host the swim in famous Lake Dillon, 106° West will feature a “half-ironman” and “quarter-man” distance for triathletes from all over the world.

Taking place on the shores of North America’s highest deep-water marina and just west of the Continental Divide, Lake Dillon will greet athletes for a 1.2-mile swim. Next, participants tackle a 56-mile bike course through historic mountain towns, maxing out at an elevation of 10,291’. Competitors will then circle Dillon Reservoir on a 13.1-mile run in the shadows of the Tenmile Range and Gore Range mountains.

All participants will receive a 106º West Athlete Tee, Cowboy hat, and beer. Finishers will receive a custom 106º West belt buckle to commemorate their experience and accomplishment. To celebrate the accomplishments of 106° West’s courageous participants, a live concert with Pink Floyd cover band, The Machine, will rock Dillon Amphitheater starting at 7 p.m. on September 10th with drink specials from Red Bull and Michelob Ultra.

106° West Triathlon at Dillon and Human Movement, Inc. have set the event up for success and longevity, and major partners have aligned to prove it.

In its inaugural year, 2x Olympian and Coloradoan Laura Bennett will look to test her limits at the never-before-been-attempted triathlon. To best prepare for it, Bennett has developed a 120-day high altitude-training program, focusing on the unique and challenging thin air course.

In addition to Bennett, some of the most elite and coveted performance sport brands have aligned with 106° West. RedBull, known for their support of only top tier events, will be on-site with product, music and hype to give athletes their “wings.” Touted as the “beer for athletes,” Michelob Ultra will keep beverages flowing for finishers and spectators alike. Nuun electrolyte and HoneyStinger will provide participants the nutrition they need to battle towards the finish line. Keeping roots in Colorado business, Kompetetive Edge will help to outfit each competitor’s specific needs, and Newton Running out of Boulder has aligned with 106° West to support their love of and dedication to running.
