What’s So Special About Spring Skiing?

Forget the frostbite blues! As frigid days fade away, the slopes go through an exciting evolution, bringing you a whole new skiing experience. The snow is softer, and the sunshine warms the landscape. The mountains become much more comfortable as the temperatures shift. Thanks to the melt-freeze cycle, you get new types of snow as well - including “corn snow,” which is some of the best snow for carving turns. Every run is exhilarating during the spring season!

Breckenridge feels different too, thanks to the smaller crowds and peaceful atmosphere on the slopes. Gone are the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds! In the spring, you can soak up the ski slopes at your own pace and take control of your skiing experience. With shorter lift lines and fewer distractions, you can hit your favorite runs over and over and over again. Breckenridge will feel like your own private paradise!

Spring Skiing in Breckenridge

In the spring, Breckenridge sees stunning sunshine and sensational snowpack thanks to its high altitude. Don’t let the warmth fool you though! Often, Breckenridge doesn’t reach its deepest snowpack of the season until the spring. You can get exceptionally deep drifts in the warmer months. Most days, skiers see corn snow on the slopes all day, but you might encounter an occasional icy or slushy patch in the mornings or late afternoons.

Crowds tend to be smaller compared to the crowds during the peak season, but there are still busy spurts during spring break, when families and college students flock to the mountains. Still, the majority of the spring ski season is quiet.

Although it can be hard to tear yourself away from the slopes, it would be a shame to miss out on the other spring activities around Breckenridge. You can hike or bike scenic trails, take a relaxing soak in the hot springs, explore the shops in the charming village, or indulge in a rejuvenating spa treatment while you’re in town! As you explore, keep an eye out for elk and other animals. They love the warmer weather as much as skiers do!
