December 19, 2016

Breckenridge Ski Resort reported a whopping 21 inches of fresh snow in a single 24-hour period Friday/Saturday, right after opening the high terrain accessable via the T-Bar lift. The T-bar is a popular high alpine terrain lift on the mountain, in addition to its opening 6 Chair plus Peak 7 and the Independence SuperChair are all now open, as well.

Before the massive 21" dump, a foot of fresh snow had already fallen since Wednesday. As of Sunday, Dec. 18, Breck's one week total was an amazing 39 inches. With the additional lifts and surrounding terrain, the resort will offer more than 1,200 acres of skiable terrain for guests to enjoy.

“Thanks to Mother Nature, Breck is now at 99 percent of average snowfall to date this season and more than 173 percent of average for the month,” said Gary Shimanowitz, vice president of mountain operations at Breckenridge Ski Resort. “We’re expecting to have all five peaks open for skiing and riding for the holidays, including Peak 10, which is slated to open on Friday, Dec. 23. We’re especially excited to get T-Bar and 6 Chair open; our Mountain Operations Teams have done an impressive job working on this advanced terrain.”

Breck moved to its winter morning operating schedule on Friday, Dec. 16 with the majority of lifts opening at 8:30 a.m. Lift operating hours are posted at the base of all open lifts and are subject to change with conditions.

Breckenridge Ski Resort will also open the brand-new, 490-seat restaurant, Pioneer Crossing, just steps from Independence SuperChair on Peak 7, on Saturday, Dec. 24. The new restaurant will highlight the mining history of Breckenridge’s past and offer a variety of house made options like salads to order and a Mediterranean station, all coupled with dramatic views of the surrounding area. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy ‘upscale campfire food’ including items like Pioneer Lamb Pie served in a skillet.
