5 ways to enjoy Breckenridge during May

It's true, the lifts are not running and the weather is very unpredictable, but that doesn't mean you cannot have fun in Breckenridge during early spring. On the contrary, the month of May is the perfect time to visit Breckenridge and enjoy it as the locals do - without the crowds. Learn about the town's rich history and observe the spring awakening of the mountain while taking advantage of the incredible off-season lodging and restaurant deals. Here are a few ideas of what to do in Breck this May:

Treat yourself to a relaxing SPA session. Many of the world class spa studios in town are offering special spring pricing, so you can indulge without overspending. Take advantage of great restaurant experience on sale trough the Breckenridge Dining Passport. The passport is available for a $10 donation, which goes towards a scholarship fund for local students. Each dining passport is valid for two people and offers special discounts at more than 20 local restaurants including favorites such as Briar Rose, The Canteen, Mountain Flying Fish, Crepes a la Carte, Fatty’s Pizzeria,The Motherloaded Tavern and many more.

Take a historic tour trough Breckenridge. If you want to explore on your own a stop by the Breckenridge Welcome Center located at 203 S Main Street could be very helpful. For a more in-depth and interactive experience take a guided historic tour with a knowledgeable professional from the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance. Walking tours through the Historic District are offered twice a day at 11 am and 1:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Take a bike ride. It is still too early for a true single-track mountain biking but if the spring sun is out and you are eager to get on the bike and enjoy the crisp mountain air take a cruise on one of the many paved biking paths trough Summit county. At this time of the year even the most popular bike routes are not crowded and will help you satisfy your early season biking cravings. The Breckenridge to Frisco trail is one of the locals favorite as it is a 18-mile out and back trip and maintains a pretty gentle grade downhill/uphill perfect for helping you get in biking shape.

Do some early season fly fishing. Fishing is one of the few mountain outdoors activities that can be anytime of the year. But as the spring sun is starting to warm up the waters and the days are getting longer fly fishing is looking more and more attractive. The Blue River offers great pools and riffles for you to cast your and enjoy the tranquility of the sport.
